karlie: so you’ve had a crush on him for this long? why haven’t you told him? has it just not come up?
mitzi: it’s never been the right time. the last time i wanted to confess, he was going through a crisis with lourdes –
karlie: (interrupts) the ex he’s currently vicariously dating through claire. whew. soap opera shit. what’s the deal with lourdes? what’s the deal with him and her?
mitzi: (sigh) they dated when we were in university. sort of a clandestine romance.
karlie: that serious?
mitzi: very. but the odd thing was, i had no idea it was even going on. the day i wanted to tell him how i felt,
(pauses) i stumbled in on them and was kinda forced to keep their relationship a secret. she broke it off. he didn’t take it very well and after graduation, he moved out as quick as he could. i guess he wanted to forget.
karlie: wow.
mitzi: yeah…..like, we’ve kept in touch when he first moved here and he was the one that convinced me to move out here. got me my first job as well.
i thought he was over all this.
karlie: has he dated much since he’s been here? i mean, there is life after university. i wouldn’t know bc i didn’t finish but yeah.
mitzi: i don’t think he’s really dated much since he moved out here.
honestly, i was surprised when he said he had a date.
i thought him asking me to move here was a sign but, i guess not.
karlie: hmm. they never do say what they actually mean, do they?
mitzi: (laughs) no they don’t.
