whiskey (owen): (slurred) ok why would a guy cheat on a woman like you? you’re smart, you’re hilarious, you’re gorgeous, sooooo gorgeous (staring at chest) fuck, so gorgeous
peach (aïcha): (laughs) i know right?! (looks away) i don’t know. that’s a conversation we’re going to have when he eventually gets up here. we were supposed to meet my parents tonight and fill them in on the engagement.
whiskey (owen): y-you haven’t told them yet.
peach (aïcha): we’ve been out of the country for a while. and uh my father blames him for “ruining my life”. plus he thinks he’s “of weak moral fiber”. the last thing he said to me at the airport was “please don’t get pregnant”
whiskey (owen): yikes.
peach (aïcha): (laughs) hah yeah. well, he’s rubbed off on me because i’m drinking now and shouldn’t be. my family is fairly religious. (points to outfit) as you can see i’m clearly not. (laughs loudly) adding to all this, i turned down a huge opportunity live with him.
whiskey (owen): (nods) so this stings a bit more.
peach (aïcha): yeah. i came up here a week early to sorta ease my parents into the news but now, i don’t know what to tell them now.
whiskey (owen): you’re not as um, angry as i would be if this was me but, you’re a better person than i am. do you think you’ll still go through with it? i mean, you sound like you really care for him.
peach (aïcha): (laughs) i could never get mad, even at him. it’s just that (pauses) i went to live with him on a whim and i never regretted it. even now, i still don’t regret it. even if things change, i’m still not angry. i can’t explain it…whiskey, what would you do if this happened to you?
whiskey (owen): i’m a complete scumbag so you probably shouldn’t ask me. but, if i were him, (takes aicha’s hand) i’d be trying to find any and every way to get up here to beg for your forgiveness.
the two stare at one another and share an uncomfortable silence.
peach (aïcha): (embarrassed) i..i gotta pee. i’ll be right back.
